Walk, Forrest, Walk!

Last month, a bunch of volunteers were kickin it at Chris and Polly’s homestead after their gardening workshop (their homestead is pretty swank, compared to the rest of ours – marble floor, two stories, and a flush toilet! (although it only flushes on alternating days-- haha)). The poker game was over, we were stuffed from Chris’s cooking, the drinks were flowing, and I don’t know what we were talking about but I remember saying, “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we walked across Swaziland, border-to-border? We could pass through the chiefdoms where other volunteers are posted and do HIV teachings and free testing and counseling along the way.” It turns out that Amy had the same idea a few months ago.

So now, we’re going to try to convince the other Peace Corps volunteers to help organize an AIDS walk across Swaziland. It’s gonna be fun. It’s also gonna be beastly to plan this, even for a small country the size of New Jersey (it’s hot and can get very mountainous), but we’re aiming for early March. Five months ought to be enough to plan. Right…?
