happy t-day

Sorry, i haven't been internetting like i should. But I'm really happy to hear from all of yall, and I promise I'll get back to you soon.

We just finished two weeks of our All-Volunteer conference, which is like a big workshop. Some doctors came in from Baylor to talk about AIDS, a bunch of NGOs came and gave their spiels, and some Group 2 and 3 came in and dropped some knowledge. Pretty interesting, made me think about how the actual practice of medicine is a much smaller factor in the AIDS problem than I would have thought.

Take male circumcision, for instance. The statistics are apparently "overwhelming" in favor of this procedure - but it's not 100% effective and the idea of "risk" might be a nuance lost on the a large portion of the population, many of whom will never finish secondary education. I think should definitely try a lot of things at this point, but let's not put all our eggs in this basket.

Happy(?) World AIDS Day on Dec. 1. We are gonna set up a "know your status" walk on that weekend, i hope it happens.

later,
-mw
